Although I was running my tailfeathers off during a recent stay in New York City, I was able to find time to visit the Main Public Library. If you haven’t seen that building — located next to Bryant Park — yet, try to get around to it someday.  Maybe this DNA Info article by Shaye Weaver will encourage you if you don’t yet know how curious you are: https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20170519/midtown-east/nypl-library-rose-reading-bill-blass-landmark/?utm_source=New+York+City&utm_campaign=34b2b29022-Mailchimp-NYC&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_4f5d8e7caa-34b2b29022-132382133 Continue reading NYPL News

Another Word On Shirley Jackson’s Work

It may sound ridiculous, but it’s interesting if you’re a real book lover.  Take a look at the slide show and short video included in the NY Times link, for more behind-the-scenes excitement. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/08/nyregion/new-york-public-library-seattle-book-sorting-system.html?_r=0 Continue reading More Library News

Bronx Library Follow-Up

Two days ago, I posted a story with a link to an online article about theft from a branch of the NYPL.  The NBC affiliate has reported an update. The staff at the Morrisania Branch of the NYPL in the Bronx has removed the sign threatening toilet paper thieves. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Library-Sign-Threatens-Ban-Toilet-Paper-Thief-Bathroom-Morrisania-New-York-Public-Library-342218651.html Continue reading Bronx Library Follow-Up

Library Patrons of the Bronx, Beware!

This post includes a link to a DNAInfo story about bathroom tissue theft at the Morrisania Branch of the NYPL. Obviously, the larger issue isn’t really toilet paper, unless you’re the unfortunate lady in the video below.  At any library, some people will sneak out with circulating materials they haven’t checked out, which is a bit more serious.  Either the toilet paper theft has become a twice-hourly thing, or the staff thinks they can get a handle on it by cracking down.  Crackdowns don’t always work with circulating materials because some of the thieves are professionals who stay one step … Continue reading Library Patrons of the Bronx, Beware!
