Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh are very far to the right in their legal views, and Judge Barrett belongs to a conservative religious organization, People of Praise, which exercises authority over members’ personal choices.
It was never determined whether U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was a member of a group called Opus Dei, or Work of God. His legal opinions were in line with Opus Dei’s values, though.
The New York Times article about Judge Barrett was posted in September of last year, before she was confirmed for the U.S. Court of Appeals. The Los Angeles Times story about Judge Barrett and Judge Kavanaugh was posted two days ago.
