Rupert Murdoch’s Attempt at Damage Reduction

Bill O’Reilly is officially out at Fox News.  He’s expected to be replaced by Tucker Carlson.

The firing of one asshat should not be interpreted as a change in the work climate at Fox News.  Currently, the station’s owner, Rupert Murdoch, is attempting to buy the U.K. media outlet Sky News.  Mr. Murdoch has concerns about his own shoddy credibility, and he has reason to believe he’ll encounter less resistance to expanding his empire if he takes a stand against Mr. O’Reilly’s behavior with women.

This week, Rupert Murdoch can call himself a reformer, and his supporters will believe him.  So will a few optimistic types who want to believe the world is getting better.  Everyone else knows Mr. Murdoch waited until the last minute to fire someone whose disgraceful conduct had been tolerated for years.

The firing of the monstrous Bill O’Reilly is not a reform.  It’s a business decision made by one of the sleaziest giants of tabloid media.  Accept it for what it is: One amoral jerk throwing another amoral jerk under the proverbial bus.

Here’s a YouTube upload of one of Bill O’Reilly’s meltdowns when he hosted the syndicated show Inside Edition.  NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK:
