At the end of this post is a link to a story in The Guardian, reporting that sales of 1984 by George Orwell have increased.
This is good news, but I’m guessing most people who are buying the book are already aware of the dangers of Donald Trump’s Administration. They didn’t vote for him.
Trump’s supporters are clueless cult followers. They have a knee-jerk, flimsy answer to every challenge, and they can’t accept the embarrassing reality that they’re grasping at straws. They don’t question Kellyanne Conway’s Alternative Facts because their own defensiveness is no better, and they aren’t going to read literature because their minimal reading time is limited to books promoted on Fox News.
Maybe all we can do is find some semblance of peace in the fact that Donald Trump isn’t supported by the majority of people in the U.S. Forget about educating people who refuse to think. Instead, we should put our energy into encouraging thinkers to vote. Isn’t the low turnout of enlightened voters part of what got us into this mess?
